Sec 7, Dwarka: When traffic chokes Ramphal Chowk…

Locals say lack of parking space and absence of traffic officials at peak hours makes the intersection chock-a-block with traffic, especially on weekends.

Sec 7, Dwarka: When traffic chokes Ramphal Chowk…

Traffic congestion at Ramphal Chowk, Sector 7, Dwarka, has become a nightmare for local residents and shopkeepers. They have been facing the situation for several years now.

Around 5 pm onwards, traffic in the area becomes uncontrollable and results in long jams. It takes a vehicle close to an hour to cross the 600-metre stretch. The situation turns from bad to worse during weekends.

The Sector 7 market, one of the busiest in Dwarka, has its own share of visitors. Lack of adequate parking space causes commuters to park their vehicles on the roadsides, which results in major traffic congestion.

Jitender Jain, who owns a medical shop in the market, says, "I have been witnessing this congestion for more than three years now. The situation worsens on weekends when most people are walking on roads."
Reportedly, no traffic official is seen in the area during peak hours. Locals say there are also altercations sometimes.

Rakesh Singh, a local resident, says, "It's rare when we see traffic police in the area. You see one official in a month or two. People park their cars in a way that chokes the lanes. We try and avoid taking the road but that’s not always possible.”

A traffic official deputed in the area, on condition of anonymity, told City Spidey, "Three officials are always standing in that area. Many challans are issued for improper parking every day. Vehicles are also towed when required.”

To deal with the situation, locals have been demanding multi-storey parking facilities in the open areas available around the market, but to no effect.
