Noida Authority mulls closure of two cuts to curb traffic violations

To stop commuters from jumping red lights, often leading to vehicle collision, the Authority is thinking of allowing right turns only at the two U-turns made by NMRC in sectors 78 and 50.

Noida Authority mulls closure of two cuts to curb traffic violations The cut below the upcoming Metro line in Sector 76

In the wake of a road mishap reported from Sector 76, Noida Authority is mulling stringent measures to curb traffic violations, including closing down two cuts on Noida-Ghaziabad Link Road, near Sector 50 and Sector 76.

The step is expected to stop commuters from jumping traffic signals. Officials of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) and Noida Authority carried out a joint inspection of the sites.

It has been observed that commuters heading towards the link road from Sector 77 don’t follow traffic rules at the cut below the upcoming Metro line in Sector 76. They jump signals, often leading to vehicle collisions. This point is particularly vulnerable, as traffic moving from three different directions merge at this junction.

Saumya Srivastava, deputy CEO of Noida Authority, said, “We went up to Sector 78 from the Sector 71 traffic light. NMRC has constructed two U-turns — one near Sector 78 and the other near Sector 50. We are thinking of allowing right turns only at these two U-turns on a trial basis.”

He added, “The two cuts close to Sector 50 and Sector 76 will be temporarily restricted and we will put up spring barricades there.”

Another joint inspection by the traffic cell of Noida Authority and SP traffic will be conducted shortly. If the trials are given a go-ahead, the measures will be implemented for a few weeks to check feasibility.

The closure of the two cuts will force commuters to drive an extra 600-700 m but will be a safer drive for them.
