The RWA of Park View Residency, a society in Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, has constructed a 1.2-km bicycle track for residents of the society.

The cycle track, which runs along the inner periphery of the society, was constructed eight months ago. The Rs 80-lakh project was an initiative of the society's RWA. The track is equipped with solar studs along its outer edge, which blink at night.

Residents have lauded the RWA's efforts in constructing the track.

“The kids used to cycle on the roads inside, which was dangerous, given it was also regularly used by vehicles," said SC Kumar, president of the RWA. "Therefore, we decided to allot a dedicated cycling track inside the condominium itself. The track is coloured red, with a yellow border running along it, so vehicles can keep out.”

“Cycling has always been a memorable part of everybody’s childhood. We did not want these kids to be deprived of that. And to avoid any mishaps, we had to make some arrangements inside the society. This is how we came up with the idea of a dedicated cycling track,” added Kumar.

The track was planned after demands from cycling enthusiasts in the society, which include youth and kids.

“I have a 3-year-old boy and he loves cycling," said Deepika Dhull, an entrepreneur and a resident of Park View Residency. "With so much traffic outside the complex, I would never have thought of taking him for cycling there. I am really glad that our RWA was considerate enough to construct a dedicated cycling track for us inside. All societies need to have such tracks within their premises."

The objective is to encourage residents to cycle for a healthier lifestyle, RWA members said.

“Riding a bicycle is healthy, fun and a great low-impact workout," said Nitin Tyagi, a member of the RWA and the father of a 7-year-old boy, who believes such tracks should be mandatory in all societies. "Boys this age have high energy levels and always need something to keep them physically engaged. This is a great way to do that."
