Nyay Khand 2, I’puram: RWA president shot at

In an incident that has shocked residents of Nyay Khand 2, Indirapuram, the RWA president was shot at during a residents' meeting near the locality’s central park. Five assailants fired shots to disrupt the meeting around 9.30 am on April 2.

The meeting was being held to form a new RWA.

The goons were allegedly hired by four residents of the neighbourhood, who — angered that the president Rajendra Pathak had held office for the past five years — wanted to disrupt the proceedings.

The goons, who were allegedly called in from Jaavli, a village in Loni, Ghaziabad, first fired two rounds in the air and then one at Pathak. He ran for his life, and luckily escaped unhurt as the bullet missed him.

The incident has filled residents with dread, as they are shocked that something like this could happen at an RWA meeting — that too, in the presence of almost 150 people. They are hesitating about whether to hold elections again.

"They just came out of nowhere and fired in the air before attacking Pathakji. That’s how bad the law-and-order situation is!" said Mohan Sharma, an attendee.

One assailant, identified as Anil Kumar, was nabbed by residents and arrested by Indirapuram Police. The assailants came in two cars — one of them a Ford Figo, which successfully escaped to the nearby Makanpur village.

The blame for the attack has been pinned on Sagar Rawat, Vikram Singh Rana, Jaman Singh Khatri and Lalit Pansane — all residents of Nyay Khand 2.

Pathak recounted, "When I got up to address the gathering, about five men warned me of dire consequences. Suddenly, a tall man first pushed me and then pulled out a small pistol. He then fired twice in the air, and everybody started to run in panic. He then shot right at me, but I luckily managed to escape."

He added, "I have been the RWA president for the past five years, and maybe these people were jealous of that.”

The RWA had received only five to six applications for candidature this time, and Pathak was unanimously nominated as the RWA president again.

Speaking to City Spidey, a police official from the Indirapuram police station, said, "We are still investigating the attack and an FIR is under way. When we spoke to residents, some confirmed that gunshots were fired, while others denied it.”

Even after repeated attempts, none of the four residents blamed for the incident could be reached for comment.
