Deputy Registrar seeks clarifications from Lotus Pond AOA, Indirapuram

The deputy registrar, Meerut, has written to the AOA of Lotus Pond, an Indirapuram society, seeking clarifications on the over-the-top expenses being made by it and the duration of its term period after each election. The letter demands the AOA's general secretary to respond within 15 days.

The deputy registrar's letter is based on a complaint by RK Anand, a resident of the society.

As per Anand, the AOA was spending an exorbitant amount from its funds. He said the AOA was also holding elections every two years, instead of the usual one, which was illegal without the deputy registrar's permission. "They do not have approval on the changes made in the model by-laws of the UP Apartment Act, 2010," said Anand.

Sanat Tripathi, the AOA president, however, said he was yet to receive any such letter from the deputy registrar. "If and when we receive the letter, we will respond to it," said Tripathi.

"Anand and some of his fellow residents — some senior citizens — have a grudge against the present AOA," said Tripathi. "Some years ago, Anand had forcefully become president. He, however, was replaced after the 2013 elections. The next elections were held in 2015 and the next is slated for December 2017, each a gap of two years."

Tripathi further explained that contrary to Anand's claims, the by-laws enabling them to hold elections every two years had been approved by the deputy registrar himself. "The elections were held only after intimating the deputy registrar's office," said Tripathi. "We decided to hold elections every two years, so each new AOA gets sufficient time to carry out large-scale development work, which normally takes more than a year to complete. An AOA will not be able to bring about any major change if its tenure is just one year."
