Students Olympics Association (SOA) of Delhi organised the zonal sports competition at Shiksha Bharati Public School in Sector 7. About 250 students from various schools, sports clubs and academies participated in the event.

Students Olympics Association (SOA) of Delhi organised South Delhi Games 2017 at Shiksha Bharati Public School, Dwarka, Sector 7, on April 4. The event saw the participation of about 250 students from various schools, sports clubs and academies across Dwarka and other areas, such as Vikaspuri, Rohini and Bawana.

Santosh Pal, secretary-general of SOA Delhi, tells City Spidey, “The event was a zonal competition. It was great to see so many students showing interest and participating with so much enthusiasm. The number of participants was far more than what we expected. There were volleyball and kho-kho. We also had yoga and a drawing competition.”

Ring Midways Sr Sec Public School and Shiksha Bharati Public School were the overall winners. Both participants and winners were conferred with medals and certificates.

Apart from sports competitions, SOA Delhi also conducts training programmes, seminars and cultural events for students.

Founded in 2014, SOA has organised three editions of Students Olympics National Games in different cities. The last edition was held in Bhopal and saw as many as 4,000 players. Pal says, “Our aim is to develop students mentally, socially and physically. This will help them have a better future.”

He adds, “We will be organising Delhi Students Olympics Games from April 28 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. In this three-day event, students from different age groups — from beginners to postgraduates — will be participating from across Delhi. There will be games such as football, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, yoga, athletics, badminton, chess, carrom, boxing, karate and taekwondo. ”
