NGT tightens noose on GreNo construction sites

Here is some good news for residents of Greater Noida.

According to a new rule laid down by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), anyone constructing a house even on a 120 sqm (1,292 sqft) plot in the city will be fined if the dust affects neighbouring households. The Greater Noida Authority has issued a notification to this effect.

Earlier, this rule was applicable only to plot sizes of 1,858 sqm (20,000 sqft) or more.

PC Gupta, Additional CEO of Greater Noida Authority, told City Spidey, "Residents were fed up with construction-related problems in the neighbourhood. Though the Authority received complaints, it couldn't help residents. But with the new ruling, allottees of plots of any size will have to adhere to the norms laid down by the NGT or else be fined."

Construction sites in Greater Noida will now have to be covered with dust screens, and water sprinkled on the construction site and adjoining roads to prevent dust pollution.

Sevak Ram, a resident of Chi Sector, said the situation in residential colonies had become so bad that people, especially senior citizens, were finding it difficult to breathe.

Rohit Raj, a resident of Beta 1, told City Spidey that the NGT order came as a big relief to the citizens of Greater Noida.
