Open loop cards for Noida Metro commuters

This multi-model system of payment would allow passengers to use the same card in city buses, shopping malls, petrol pumps and other stores.

Passengers of Aqua Line Metro, running on the 29-km stretch between Noida and Greater Noida, would be using open loop cards, if things go according to plans. Such cards would allow commuters to use the same card in city buses, shopping malls, petrol pumps and other stores.

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is now in the process of selecting a vendor for making the cards.

The card will first be launched for city buses on a trial basis for six months, and then for the Metro.

If successful, this payment system will also be extended to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in the second phase.

At present, commuters are using the close loop card of the DMRC, which can only be used for travel in the Metro.

Shailender Bhatia, officer on special duty of NMRC, told City Spidey, “People don’t want to carry cash anymore for security issues and convenience as well, so open loop cards are the future.”
