Gurgaon’s bustling Cyber Hub unrecognisable a week into liquor ban

This is the first weekend after Navratra, but with the liquor ban in place, will things be any different? Most think not.

Gurgaon’s bustling Cyber Hub unrecognisable a week into liquor ban

Cyber Hub, Gurgaon’s most happening party destination, has been struck hard by the Supreme Court liquor ban. While there’s some footfall during the day, the evenings are rather deserted. And weekends don’t even look like weekends.

The 500-m "motorable distance" as a condition for serving liquor has put the survival of many pubs and bars at stake. As the ban spoke of liquor vendors, many owners of lounges and pubs were hoping to escape. But none were spared the rod.

Speaking to City Spidey, Chandra Subba, manager of Pier 38, said, “This is hell — there’s hardly any crowd at night. Many of our staff members have left for their hometowns after losing their jobs. Those working are constantly worried.”

Manoj Sarbar, a staff member at Pier 38, said, “The average spending per head has come down from Rs 1,500 to Rs 500. We are really worried about our jobs.”

Last weekend saw a deserted Saturday — this week, too, will not be any different, many speculate. “I was here last Saturday, and it looked completely isolated,” agreed Pawan Toshniwal, from a leading MNC.

“This is the first weekend after Navratra. Let’s see how it turns out,” said Navneet Singh, a Deloitte employee.

Though the day doesn’t look as bad because of the corporate crowd, the reality sinks in only in the post-work hours. Cyber Hub, which always had full parking, now yearns for visitors.
