The education department (Meerut zone) has issued a notice to the management of Delhi Public School, Sector 132, Noida, over the expulsion of 60 children from the school.

The department has sought the reason for the expulsion and has also asked about the additional annual fee being levied. It has given the school a week to respond.

Mahendra Dev, director of Meerut education department, told City Spidey that the school has been given the last chance to defend its case. “If the school does not respond to the notice, we will write a letter to the government and the CBSE to cancel the school’s accreditation,” he said.

According to Dev, the rules regarding the school fee were not clear and so he cannot take any action regarding the fee.

When City Spidey contacted Indira Kohli, principal of the school, she said that she has received the notice and that it will be responded to.

"These children's fees have not been deposited for a year. But they have been availing all our facilities for one year. Funds are needed to run a school. We didn’t have a choice but to expel them” she said.

Speaking about the hike in fees, Kohli said that school has all the approvals from CBSE. "The shortcomings of the school were removed before the new session and the fee hike was done under CBSE guidelines," she added.

In 2016, the school had raised the fee by 14 per cent. Parents protested against the hike and were not ready to pay the increased fees to the school. When they did not deposit the fees, the school management expelled 45 students before the beginning of the new session and another 15 later.
