In a tragic incident, a 59-year-old woman fell to her death from the 18th floor of Panchsheel Wellington, in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad. The incident took place around 10.20 pm on April 8.

The deceased has been identified as Seema Poddar. Her sudden death was initially considered a suicide but sources close to the family have confirmed the incident as an accident.

"She was on a fast the whole day and after eating her dinner she was just casually strolling in the common area of her floor. She must have peeped down from the low common-area railing before losing her balance and falling off," said Sandeep Nigam, RWA president, Panchsheel Wellington.

The police has sent her body for post-mortem.

The woman used to live in Flat No 1802A of Tower 6 with her husband Ramesh Kumar Poddar, her son and her daughter-in-law. Ramesh who is also an AOA member of the society had retired from HCL in 2007.

Ramesh and Seema Poddar had three children. Their son Ashish, works in Merchant Navy and lives abroad. Both their daughters, Anupama and Tanuja, are married.

The sudden demise of the woman has left the entire society in shock.

According to the police, family members of Seema indicated that she was also suffering from depression.

According to the RWA members of the society, people walking on the ground floor heard a loud thud. They found her body in a pool of blood and immediately informed the police.

AOA members of the society said the low railing in the lobby of each floor had also claimed another life almost three months back. "We have raised this issue with the builder several times before as well, but nothing has been done so far," said Nigam.
