Dwarka came together to celebrate the life and work of legendary classical vocalist Kishori Amonkar, of the Jaipur gharana. The event was organised at Maxfort School, Sector 7, by Dwarka Collective, a group of artists, intellectuals and activists from the sub-city.

There was a slide presentation mixed with renditions and pieces of classical singing. Writer, design resource and curator Nicholas Hoffman was the speaker on the occasion, taking the audience through her childhood struggles, her life's milestones, her musical style and her devotion to work. Hoffman spoke about how Amonkar broke the rules and tradition of classical singing and introduced a new dimension to her music through her riyaaz. Classical styles such as khayal and thumri were presented through video clips.

At the event, celebrities such as Kiran Segal, eminent Odissi dancer and daughter of actor Zohra Segal, and Nageen Tanvir, daughter of Habib Tanvir and a popular theatre personality herself, were present. Nageen Tanvir said, “This was a compelling session on the life of Kishori Amonkar. We got to know about her life a lot more closely.”
