35 requests from Gurgaon bar/pub owners for re-measurement

The Gurgaon excise and taxation department has received 35 requests from various pub and bars for a re-measurement of their distance from state and national highways, on April 10.

The excise department will start the exercise from Udyog Vihar at 7.30 am on April 11.

The department will measure the distance of the Country Inn and Suites By Carlson, as it, too, has submitted its request in this regard. The east department has so far received only two affidavits from Crowne Plaza and The Westin Gurgaon, Sector 29.

“In all, we have received 35 requests from different establishments till April 10, including those from Cyber Hub, and two more from Ambience Mall and Rajiv Chowk [west zone]. The exercise will start in the presence of officials of MCG, PWD, Budget and Reporting, NHAI and police teams,” said HC Dahiya, deputy excise and taxation commissioner (west) Gurgaon.

The district administration had asked the pub and bar owners to submit their affidavits by April 10, so doubts about whether their establishments fell within 500 m of state or national highways could be cleared.

The Cyber Hub owners are confident they will escape the ban, as the motorable distance from the highway is more than 500 m, after they changed their entry and exit.

The deputy commissioner had formed a committee to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling. The members had visited Cyber Hub, Sector 29 and Sohna Road on April 1 and stopped the sale of liquor in pubs and bars falling within 500 m of state and national highways.
