Gurgaon: End of water woes for residents?

Thanks to a new pipeline from Basai water treatment plant to Maruti Vihar in Sector 28, several residential colonies in Gurgaon will be spared a water crisis this summer.

Initially, the residents will get 8 million gallons of water every day, but the capacity will be increased later.

Sectors 4, 7, 21, 22, 23, Palam Vihar, Ashok Vihar and Sheetla Colony will benefit from the new pipeline, which will run parallel to the existing one.

The pipeline was inaugurated by local MLA Umesh Aggarwal. He said, “I don’t want the residents of my city to suffer from water shortage, particularly in summer. I have been trying to work on this for the past one year. I would also like to thank the officials who got the work completed in such a short span.”

According to officials, the pipeline is made of steel, so illegal connections cannot be made from it. There’s no chance of leakage either, a common problem in the old pipeline.

RWA president of Sector 21, Col (Retd) Umed Singh, told City Spidey, “It’s too early to say anything. We will know once the booster starts working. So I guess we’ll have to wait until April 16.”

RWA president of Sector 22, Bheem Singh Yadav, told City Spidey, “Only time will tell how things will change after this new pipeline becomes operational. Right now, our sector is facing an acute shortage of water. We went everywhere, from the municipal commissioner to the deputy commissioner, but nothing was done. If the pipeline improves water supply, it will be a big relief to us residents.”

Residents of sectors 21, 22 and 23 have been facing a shortage of water for many days. They even threatened to hold a protest over the issue.
