Noida: Taps run dry as Ganga jal floods Sec 77 road

At a time when many residents of Noida’s new sectors are relying on ground water for their needs, gallons of soft water (Ganga jal) has been going down the drain in Sector 77, Noida, for the last two days.

The underground water supply pipelines of Noida Authority has burst near the entry gate of Express Zenith, a residential society in the sector. As the pipelines are located three feet below the ground, the plumbing staff of the Authority have been finding it difficult to repair the damage.

The staff has made a huge hole in the ground to locate the point of leakage. The damage is such that water has accumulated on the roads.

Meanwhile, residents say that they made an online complaint with the grievance cell of the Authority and asked them to deploy staff immediately to restore the water supply, which has also affected.

Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Express Zenith, told City Spidey, “The water flowing on the road causes muck on the roadsides, and forces residents to stand in the middle of the road when they come to see off their kids to school.”

He pointed out that water leaking from underground water pipelines has become a recurring issue in the last few weeks. “Although it was repaired, it has recurred again!” he added.

Surendra Garg, a resident of Civitech Sampriti, another residential society in the sector, said that the water supply in his society has been disrupted for the last two days.

Another resident of the Civitech Sampriti, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “I have been relying on ground water since the time I shifted here. Water is an issue here and residents receive mixed water supply [submersible pump water and Ganag Jal].”

When City Spidey contacted MD Pandey, project engineer with Noida Authority (Jal II), he said that staff has been deployed and water supply would be restored by the evening of April 12.

“The underground supply pipelines get damaged when other departments deploy JBC for either digging or levelling the vacant plots. Once the areas in sectors 74, 75, 76 and 77 are fully developed, such incidents will not happen as often as they happen nowadays,” he added.
