Hundreds of parents held a demonstration against the school-fee hike by Modern Public School in Shahberi, Gautam Budh Nagar, on April 12.

According to parents, the school management had hiked fees by almost 50 per cent. "The school has also hiked the transport fee by 50 per cent for distances up to 5 km," complained the parents. They said that earlier, when they had discussed the matter with the school faculty, they were told that the decision had been taken by the higher management. They had asked for a week's time to get back to parents, but till now there had been no change to the fee.

Parents demanded that the fee hike be rolled back, as schools were not allowed to hike fees by more than 10 per cent to 15 per cent in a year.

Seema Singh, one of the protesting parents, told City Spidey that the school had increased both tuition and transport fees. "Last year, the quarterly fee was Rs 6,650, which the school has now increased to Rs 11,710," She said. "The transport fee has been increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1,200."

NP Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, told City Spidey that a three-member committee had been formed to solve the matter. "The committee, which is being headed by the city magistrate of Noida, Ramanuj Singh, will investigate the matter," Singh added.

City Spidey tried to contact the school officials for their say on the issue, but they were not available for comment.
