Why this 500-year-old crematorium is set to relocate

A 500-year-old crematorium located on NH8 between Signature Tower and Iffco Chowk in Gurgaon is set to be shifted to facilitate the construction of a flyover.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has identified two sites which will be considered for relocation and will take a decision soon.

One of the sites that has been identified is near Sukhrali pond while the other site identified by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is near Atul Kataria Chowk.

Although the crematorium is used by residents from all over the city, Sukhrali villagers want it relocated near the pond. “Our village has had this crematorium since the time it came into existence. We want the site for relocation to be near Sukhrali Pond as it is the closest,” said Anup Bhambru, the area councillor.

V Umashankar, MCG commissioner, told City Spidey, “We will soon take a call on the matter and assign the tender so that the shifting can begin. Both the proposed locations are convenient for people as they are not far from the current spot.”
