The four-day strike by Haryana Roadway, the public transport unit of the government, had forced residents to rely on costlier modes of transport.

In what came as a relief to commuters, the four-day strike of Haryana Roadways, the public transport unit of Haryana government, ended on April 13.

The strike was against the government’s policy of providing permits to private buses. Haryana Roadways buses resumed operations after the government withdrew the policy.

In the absence of the service, commuters had to depend on other means of public transport that were proving costly. Roshni Yadav, a daily commuter from Farrukhnagar to Sector 14, Gurgaon, says, “I was quite hassled as I had to change three autos to reach my parlour. Transport authorities must think about people before taking such decisions. If they do take such decisions, they should have a backup plan in place.”

Frequent strikes either by cabs or buses have been giving commuters a tough time. Vivek Verma, a student of Amity University in Manesar, says, “Commuting was quite inconvenient in these four days as I usually take Haryana Roadways buses. Now that the strike is over, commuting should be easy again.”
