Divider disappears on Iffco Chowk, but not everyone is amused

While some say the new route saves them 40 minutes of travel times, others are not so impressed.

Divider disappears on Iffco Chowk, but not everyone is amused

Gurgaon traffic police’s decision to deploy officials at Iffco Chowk after removing dividers last month has been met with mixed reactions from commuters. The dividers had been removed to create a shorter route for traffic headed from Iffco Chowk Metro station to New Delhi via MG Road.

Earlier, commuters headed to Delhi had to take a left towards Iffco Chowk, followed by a U-turn at the clogged intersection. After removing the dividers, commuters can save precious time by taking a right turn on MG Road. The change, however, has created a bottleneck on MG Road.

Some commuters feel there is no reduction in travel time.

“It is just that the problem has shifted from one point to another," said Parul Bansal, a resident of DLF IV. "I don't think I will reach earlier. It will take the same time as earlier.”

On the other hand, Sarabjeet Singh, a resident of Sushant Lok I who has a shop in Delhi, said, “The removal of dividers has lessened my travel time by 40 minutes. It is easier for me to take the service lane and head straight to my home from MG Road.”

DCP Traffic Balbir Singh said, “The idea behind opening the stretch was to provide a hassle-free stretch to commuters coming from Iffco Chowk Metro station towards MG road. We have also succeeded in reducing travel time for commuters. The tiny confusion people are facing right now will soon be over. The newly deployed traffic personnel will help streamline traffic."

The traffic situation on MG road during the peak traffic hours, however, still continues to be a nightmare for daily commuters.
