Gurgaon: Finally some light on the Sec 56-57 stretch!

HUDA has assigned a contractor to fix the defunct lights on this road. But can the residents hope for LED lights?

Gurgaon: Finally some light on the Sec 56-57 stretch!

Finally, HUDA has assigned a contractor to start repair and maintenance work of streetlights on the stretch between sectors 56 and 57. Residents had been repeatedly complaining about the defunct lights in the area.

After sundown, residents don’t feel safe to step out.

Area councillor Mahesh Dayma said, “We had complained several times about the defunct lights. It’ll be great if LED lights are installed. The functioning of lights in a residential area is a must for the safety of residents.”

The affected areas include sectors 56 and 57, and Sushant Lok II and III.

The main road leads to the area’s biggest biodiversity park in Sector 56, where people go for walks in the early mornings and the late evenings — but they feel threatened in the absence of light.

Sunita Gildiyal, a Sushant Lok II resident, said, “There’s only one market for our daily needs in Sector 56, but the road leading to it gets so dark after sundown. There are quite a few slums around and there's the village of Wazirabad too — we feel unsafe to venture out even in the late evenings.”

In the past years, several cases of chain snatching, burglary and car-jacking have been reported from this stretch.

“We do maintenance work throughout the year. Work has started, and we’ll take up the areas one by one,” confirmed a HUDA official.
