Gurgaon: Back-to-back power outages for eight hours!

Gurgaon residents had to suffer eight-hour-long power cuts on April 17 and 18, owing to the construction of underpasses at Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower and Rajiv Chowk by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN), on the other hand, said the outages were planned shutdowns to facilitate construction activities for the underpasses. The discom added that it was fully prepared for summer this time.

“Currently, we are working in close coordination with NHAI. The problems that residents are facing are temporary. Steady power supply will resume soon,” confirmed a DHVBN official.

Areas that are witnessing constant power outages include South City, sectors 15, 17, 21, 30, 31, 43 46 and 47, New Basti, Patel Nagar and New Palam Vihar.

“Power cuts in the past two days were on account of planned maintenance activity and not due to any fault in the transmission or distribution system,” a DHBVN spokesperson said.

The supply was snapped to facilitate the shifting of power lines coming in the way of underpass construction on NH 8. Besides, the HVPNL also had to halt supply on the Badshahpur Sector 15 power line due to the shifting of towers coming in the way of the underpasses.

Navin Verma, DHBVN superintending engineer, said, “We have launched a special drive for maintenance and upgrading of the transmission system. In the past four months, approximately 1,880 m of line and new conductors have been installed and 154 transformers have been added to the system in Gurgaon. One can call our complaint centre in case there is an outage.”
