Gurgaon: If you frequented any of these four bars, start looking elsewhere

These well-known haunts of the city, including Cooper’s Grill & Bar and Ninkasi Brewery in Star Mall, were in the 500-m red zone after measurement.

Gurgaon: If you frequented any of these four bars, start looking elsewhere Officials measuring the distance of the bars from the highway

Unfortunately, there will be no respite for Gurgaon residents from the persisting liquor ban.

The district administration on the morning of April 20 measured the distance of about 10 pubs and bars, including that of a five-star hotel.

Curtains came down on four well-known haunts of the city, including Cooper’s Grill & Bar, and Ninkasi Brewery in Star Mall, Bottles and Barrels in Star Tower and Brauhaus in Omaxe Mall, Sohna Road. They all fell within the red zone of 500 m from the highway.

A team comprising members of the excise department, the National Highways Authority of India and Public Works Department started measuring the distance from Sector 15 around 7.30 am, then proceeded to Star Mall and finished at Sohna Road.

The owners, hopeful of escaping the ban, had applied for measurement on April 19. But their hopes were soon dashed, as the distance didn’t even exceed 300 m.

“We had already measured the distance twice on Google Maps, and it was nearly 900 m. But the officials took another route and measured only till the entrance,” said Yogesh Kumar, general manager of Ninkasi Brewery, Sector 30.

On the other hand, Galaxy Hotels managed to find itself in the safe zone.
