Noida Authority's infrastructure development budget

Thumbs up for flyovers and car parks, rural development and the Metro; not so for electricity and water supply.

Noida Authority's infrastructure development budget

Noida Authority Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rama Raman on Monday presented the budget for the financial year 2016-2017. It aims at developing world-class infrastructure in the city.

Raman proposed Rs 500 crore for Metro rail projects and Rs 1,000 crore for Noida Metro Rail Corporation. To ease congestion, the Authority has proposed Rs 220 crore for three multi-level car parks at Sector 16A (Film City), Sector 18 and Botanical Garden.

It also proposed Rs 404 crore to streamline traffic by developing underpasses, elevated roads and flyovers in the city; Rs 132 crore was set aside for the repair of roads.

Ahead of the State Assembly elections scheduled in 2017, the Authority proposed Rs 192 crore for the development of rural areas. A budget to improve roads, parks and sewer lines in all the 83 villages in Noida was also proposed, as was Rs 55 crore for the Samajwadi Awas Yojana.

However, with just Rs 14 crore set aside for water supply and Rs 15 crore for the development of electricity sub-stations, water and electricity supply will likely be major problems this summer too.
