CITY SPIDEY EXCLUSIVE: 30 Gurgaon pubs/bars to start operations

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Gurgaon, sent a report to the excise commissioner giving green signal for 30 bars, pubs and hotels to start their operations once their liquor license is granted.

The committee, which was formed by DC, comprised officials from the district administration, excise department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD) and the police. The committee started measuring the distance of the establishments from the nearest highways and had submitted their report earlier this week.

According to the officials, the delay was due to verification of the building plans by the committee members from PWD and HSIIDC.

The 30 establishments include 15 pubs/bars in Sector 29, 11 in Ambience Mall, and Westin Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Barbet Tourist complex of Haryana Tourism and Treehouse Queens Pearl (Rajiv Chowk).

Hardeep Singh, DC, Gurgaon, told City Spidey, “We have sent our final report to the excise commissioner, in which we have given a green signal to 30 outlets that can start serving liquor after the approval from the headquarters.”

“The 30 pubs/bars have escaped the Supreme Court liquor ban and can now start their operations from next week once their license formalities are done,” said HC Dahiya, deputy excise and taxation commissioner (West), Gurgaon.

The fate of the remaining 85 hotels and pubs/bars will be decided on April 24.

The Supreme Court has banned the serving/sale of liquor within 500 m of national and state highways with effect from April 1. The decision was taken as a preemptive measure against the high fatality rate in road accidents and drunken driving.
