Gurgaon parents to intensify protests against schools

Gurgaon parents have decided to come together and mount pressure on the Haryana government to take action against schools for hiking fees arbitrarily.

Parents have decided to meet at Leisure Valley, Sector 29, on 23 April, to discuss the issues further and decide the action roadmap.

In Gurgaon, this year, most private schools have more than doubled their fees, without justification.

“Parents from different states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi and Punjab, have had their woes redressed after protesting against the fee hike. Then, why can’t the Haryana government do the same? Why is this government so indifferent to our concerns?” said Jaideep Dahiya, a parent whose child studies in Gurgaon's Shiv Nadar School.

In the recent past, hundreds of parents from Gurgaon — and across the NCR — had put up protests several times at Jantar Mantar against the “unreasonable” fee hike and “illegal” charges imposed by various private schools.

“The Punjab government has taken a strong stand against schools. It’s high time our state government, too, intervenes,” said Raj Kumar Yadav, a parent.

Various parents’ associations in the city have given an ultimatum to the Haryana government — to force schools to roll back their fee hikes or face tougher protests, including burning of effigies.
