A dust storm hit Gurgaon around 4.45 pm on April 22. It brought some relief to the residents from the sweltering heat they had been experiencing in the past week when temperature hovered around 42 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature recorded was 40.4 degree Celsius and minimum was 29.5 degree Celsius on April 22. According to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official, there is a possibility of a thunderstorm, with partial clouds, on April 23. The maximum temperature is likely to go up to 39 degree Celsius while minimum would remain at 26 degree Celsius.

“As the maximum temperature in the last week was 43.7 degree Celsius on April 19 and the minimum temperature was 26.0 degree Celsius on the same day, the city is expected to receive some precipitation over the next few days,” he said.

Gurgaon had received a rainfall of 4 mm on April 5 and of 2 mm on April 6. The official said that the city has been experiencing a very dry climate with intense heat since then. Gurgaon experienced a heat wave last week.

He added that while the eastern and north-eastern regions of the country can expect light showers, the city would continue to be under the grip of intense heat despite the development of a thunderstorm over the city, which is expected to bring temporary relief.
