For seven years, Fresco had to depend on pumped groundwater, grossly violating the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
The senior town planner from the Town and Country Planning Department has ordered Unitech to connect the canal water pipeline to Fresco Apartments, Sector 50, Gurgaon, immediately.
A meeting was held on April 24 about this. It was attended by eight Unitech officials and RWA members. The builder was asked to explain why Fresco had to do without canal water for the past seven years. It had to depend on pumped groundwater for all these years.
Senior town planner YM Mansuri said, “We have directed the developer to connect the canal water line immediately.”
Supriyo Das Gupta, RWA secretary, said, "Extraction of groundwater is a clear breach of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. Unitech and Pioneer Urban, the co-developer, have exhibited gross negligence in not following the norms and guidelines specified by the Central Ground Water Board. We urge the authorities to mount pressure on them to complete the infrastructure required to bring canal water to the building.”
Pradeep Arora, a member of the sub-committee at Fresco, added, "Unitech will need to complete the work by May 24. We can’t keep depleting our precious groundwater.”
