Toughening its stance on arbitrary school fee hikes in Noida and Greater Noida, the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration instructed schools to strictly comply with the district magistrate’s order to form a committee. This committee would be entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring transparency in levying school fees under different categories.
This was conveyed at a joint meeting between the city magistrate, additional district magistrate, district inspector of schools, representatives of about 51 schools and members of several parents associations held at the district administration office in Surajpur on April 25.
Earlier, the state government had ordered the setting up of a committee led by the district magistrate for regulating school fees. A few schools had then moved the Allahabad High Court, which had put a stay on this order. Tuesday’s meeting was called after these schools disagreed over the order by the DM to form a five-member committee and said that they would not adhere to it.
The committee would comprise of two charter accountants, one on behalf of parents’ association and the other on behalf of school management. One member would represent the school management and another would represent the parents’ association. A fifth member would be appointed by the district administration.
Ramanuj Singh, city magistrate told City Spidey, “In case there is more than one nominee for a committee member from a parents’ association, it has been advised that the selection of the member be done through a lottery system.”
“The committee will check if the schools are complying with the norms of CBSE and state government. It will also see to it if the schools are charging fees according to the facilities being given to the students,” he said.
The committee of each school will prepare a report stating if the school is charging fees judiciously. Singh added that if they fail to do so, their NOC would be cancelled.TAGS: Noida / Greater Noida / Gautam Budh Nagar / city magistrate / additional district magistrate / district inspector of schools / Surajpur / Allahabad High Court / Ramanuj Singh / CBSE / NOC
