Residents of Angel Mercury, a residential society in Ahinsa Khand 2, Indirapuram, gave new impetus to an initiative of adopting trees in the society and in the neighbourhood.

Nine residents adopted plants that would be soon planted in the society. They would be paying Rs 500 each to cover the cost of planting a sapling and other expenses regarding digging and iron guards. The initiative is part of a clean and green drive by a residents’ group called Green Team Ahinsa Khand.

Speaking to City Spidey, Ashok Lavanya, a resident of the society, said, “The initiative is a much-needed step to instil the idea of adopting plants instead of just planting. Planting a sapling and not taking care of it is akin to not planting at all.”

“The money they will be paying is minimal and for a greater cause. As a representative of my society, I acquainted the residents with the initiative and they responded well,” he added.

Puneet Baraja, one of the nine residents, told City Spidey that his decision to adopt a plant stands on the firm belief that the present generations must go green in order to make the planet liveable for the future generations. “There is no other alternative,” Baraja said.

When asked if he had any hesitation in giving Rs 500 for adopting a plant, he said that it was a worthy cause. “Someone has to take the initiative. The money is not important. Once people realise that something good will come out of it, they will join in,” he added.
