Music knows no boundaries and there’s nothing quite like bonding over music. For lovers of music in Dwarka, here is an interesting initiative that aims to bring them closer.

Two maestros living in the sub city have come up with "Sur Angan," a club which plans to organise  events dedicated to promotion of music by the residents and for the residents.

Govind Saraswati and Dr Shailesh Kumar, the duo who have been into classical music for a long time, started the club in February and aim to provide an opportunity to budding artists and music lovers from the sub city to sing and perform.

Saraswati, a classical vocalist and a renowned music composer who stays in Harmony Apartments, Sector 4, says, “Music can strengthen bonds among people. So we came up with ‘Sur Angan,’ which is like a family that provides young artists a platform to grow and promotes music as a culture.”

The duo told City Spidey that there was a need for one such club or a group in Dwarka that could promote music through residents who had a background in music or who loved it.

Dr Kumar, a resident of Daffodils Apartments, Sector 6, who is also a vocalist, says, “Those who have been with us in our journey in the field of music were demanding one such club where everybody could meet at least once a month. In Dwarka, there are many people who have a background in classical or semi-classical music. So we came up with this concept through which residents could meet and share their love for music. This is how Sur Angan started. We plan to conduct one event every month. We will also be organising events occasionally. During festivals, such as Holi, Diwali, Dushehra and Basant Panchami, ragas and songs related to the occasion would be sung.”

According to the duo, the singers and instrumentalists perform together. Those who are learning classical music, vocal or instrumental, also perform in the events. “What could be a better platform than this for budding artists to perform in front of seniors of their area! In our first programme held in February, many such boys and girls who are learning classical music performed,” says Dr Kumar.
