Gurgaon I: Awareness camp on GST Excise department officials interact with residents during a session on GST

The Central Excise Commission of Gurgaon I recently organised an awareness campaign in Sector 5 for the residents to explain the concept of country-wide goods and service tax, or GST, to be implemented from July.

The GST will include service tax, VAT and excise.

The campaign saw active participation from residents. It was attended by a panel of excise department officials, including Ramphal, assistant commissioner of the excise department, Gurgaon 1, and its superintendent Dharampal.

Speaking to City Spidey, Gobind Saluja, a businessman, said, “This campaign was really required. We were able to clear our doubts.”

Vinod Bansal, RWA vice-president of Sectors 3, 5 and 6, added, “Our country will have a single tax regime from July — one of the greatest developments in the history of our tax structure. This change will have a direct impact on us buyers and tax payers. So, we must be very clear in our understanding.”

Ramphal explained, “Earlier, businessmen had to register separately for the various taxes, but now, it will all be done from one place.”
