The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) has offered the consumers to disclose if their electricity meters have been tampered with or if they are not working at all. The tampering of electricity meters is an offense and consumers can be slapped with a heavy penalty.

The offer to disclose the meter is available till May 31. DHBVN would not charge any penalty to the consumers who voluntarily surrender their meters before the deadline.

Navin Verma, superintending engineer, DHBVN, told City Spidey, “The offer is a bonus for thousands of consumers of the city. Meter tampering cases are on the rise. We do not have an exact number but we suspect meter tampering is happening in areas where electricity consumption is much high against sanctioned load.”

Verma added, “The offer is available for consumers having sanctioned load up to 20 KW in domestic and non-domestic sectors. We have also offered consumers to pay electricity bill, if they have not paid it since January this year. DHBVN would not charge any interest from them. The offer is valid for consumers having electricity load up to 2 KW.”

In a raid by the vigilance team of DHBVN on May 1, three police officials were found guilty of illegal electricity connections in recruitment training colony near Bhondsi.

The DHBVN has cracked its whip against defaulters indulged in electricity theft by illegal connections and meter tampering.
