The RWA and residents joined hands to beautify and fence off a stretch of the green belt that had become an eyesore, and also a threat to the security of residents.
Can a green belt, which had become an eyesore, be restored without civic help? Yes, if residents and the RWA work collaboratively. And that’s what happened in Sector 46 of Gurgaon.
The area bordering the sector had become a place to dump garbage; a place for dogs and pigs to rummage for food; and a place for vendors to encroach.
There was a greater worry... the threat of miscreants and strangers. Of late, a lot of chain snatching incidents were being reported from the stretch.
The RWA, along with the residents, decided to do something about it. As a first step, the area was fenced off with barbed wires.
The fencing also demarcated the sector, which has a total of 3,250 plots — of which, 2,000 are occupied.
The RWA spent almost Rs 3 lakh for the 5-km stretch.
Two private schools in Sector 46, Manav Rachna International School and IDiscoveri Preschool, too, made financial contributions to the initiative.
Speaking to City Spidey, Raj Kumar Yadav, RWA president, said, “Our sector was unsafe, with all the sides open. The fencing and installation of six gates, of which only one will remain open for 24 hours, will hopefully put an end to incidents of chain snatching.”
“The RWA has worked hard to build this beautiful stretch. Earlier it was like a public path, now it seems like our very own,” said Pankaj Goyal, a resident.
