Rishabh Cloud 9, I’puram: 65-year-old woman allegedly jumps to death

A 65-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by leaping off the balcony of her 20th-floor flat in Rishabh Cloud 9, a residential society in Indirapuram.

According to the police, the incident took place on May 4 around 2.30 am.

The deceased has been identified as Savita Kapoor. She was living in Flat No 2002 of Block B with her husband Shashi Kapoor and son Saurav.

Shashi had retired from SBI in 2002.

Police officials said the victim had been ill for the last 10-15 days. She was depressed about it, and it further alienated her from her family.

Residents of the society said that from what they had learnt, the woman was suffering from some illness, which had forced her to take this extreme step.

The police officials, however, said they did not find any suicide note, and the body was released on May 4 after post-mortem.

City Spidey got in touch with the son, who was in a state of shock.

He said, “My mother had been ill for some time, and had had a paralytic attack several years ago, but she did recover over time.” However, he did admit that his mother had been keeping ill lately, and it had led to depression.

He added, “Maybe something happened that caused her to fall off — or perhaps she decided not to go through the painful phase of her illness. I have seen her feeling helpless many times. I could do nothing but pray for her.”

Alok Tripathi, a resident, told City Spidey that he received a call around 2.30 am from the guard of the tower about a woman lying motionless near the tower. “By the time I reached the spot, the security supervisor had already called the police. Initially, the body could not be identified, but then we realised it was Mrs Kapoor. Her husband was called in.”

Her son was in office at the time.

When asked whether the family was going through any internal trouble, Tripathi ruled out the possibility and said that both husband and wife had been keeping unwell for some time — and this could have possibly pushed the family into depression.
