Swine flu is back in Gurgaon after two years!

The swine flu threat has Gurgaon in its grip yet again.

The number of cases reported in the last seven days has shown a significant increase. While the health department has cautioned the city, residents need to take adequate precautions too.

The flu has resurfaced after a lapse of two years. The Gurgaon Civil Hospital, too, has sent out warnings to residents.

Speaking to City Spidey, Kanta Goyal, who is the chief medical officer at Civil Hospital, said, “We have earmarked an isolation ward for these cases.”

Dr Jai Bhagwan, a private physician, said, “Symptoms include increased temperature, unusual tiredness, headache, sore throat, loss of appetite, diarrhoea and vomiting.”

Children tend to contract this infection sooner.

Dr Sanjay Wazir, senior paediatrician at Cloudnine hospital in Sector 47, said, “The best defence against any type of flu is to get the influenza vaccine. However, babies younger than six months are not old enough to get the vaccine. Everyone in the family should get vaccinated. If your child has a chronic health condition, such as asthma or diabetes, it’s especially important to get him or her vaccinated, since he has a greater chance of developing complications.”

The swine flu is infectious, and hence cleanliness is a basic step to prevention, doctors added.
