Shortcut to flyway eludes Sec 15A

Six months after clearance of the proposal for an underpass connecting Sector 15A to the DND flyway, the project has yet to see light of day. Disgruntled residents of the sector renewed their demand for early construction of the proposed underpass.

The proposed underpass will give the commuters from the sector easy access to the flyway during peak hours when the passage through road divider is blocked by barricades for smooth flow of traffic. Currently, they have to take a round of Sector 16 to reach the flyway covering a distance of at least 3 km.

"The underpass has been a long standing demand of the residents. The proposal for it was approved by the Noida Authority six months ago. But the construction work is yet to take off," regretted Ashok Chaturvedi, General Secretary of Sector 15A RWA.

The underpass, the residents say, will save their time and energy.

When City Spidey took up the matter with Mohd Ishrat, Project Engineer, Noida Authority, he informed that tender for the underpass would be floated by the end of March. Construction work may start by the first week of June.

Giving details about the plan, Ishrat said, “The underpass will be a two-lane road which can be used as both exit and entrance by the residents of the sector.”

"Construction of the underpass will take one year to complete and the estimated cost of the project would be Rs 19 crore," he said.
