I'puram: Teenagers robbed of cell phones, wallets and a DSLR at gunpoint

In a shocking incident, seven teenagers were looted at gunpoint by a group of four miscreants near Swarn Jayanti Park, opposite ATS Advantage, a residential society in Indirapuram. The incident took place this afternoon.

The victims, all in their late teens, were engrossed in a photo shoot near the park after celebrating the birthday of one of the guys, when they were robbed of their mobile phones, wallets and the DSLR camera they were carrying.

The victims have been identified as Aashwal Chaudhary, Rechik Roy, Anirban Chakraborty, Sunny Saxena, Anmol Sharma, Karan Chauhan and Prakar Joshan, recent passouts from Amity School, Noida.

The teenagers even tried chasing the miscreants on their scooters for a distance but they managed to speed away.

The group of boys complained that two of the four miscreants, on a red and blue Bajaj Pulsar, had been observing them for a while from a distance. The victims further stressed that a Police Control Room (PCR) van was parked close to their location before the incident. As soon as the PCR van left, the unidentified men confronted the boys.

"We were taking pictures and making videos of us having fun using Aashwal's camera," said Rechik Roy, 17, a resident of ATS Advantage. "Out of the blue, one of the men came to us and in a sudden move snatched the camera from Aashwal's hand. He then engaged us in conversation, asking us about the camera. In the meantime, his partner came from behind and loaded a pistol right in front of our eyes. He threatened to shoot us if we did not hand over our wallets and mobile phones."

According to the victims, the miscreants rang up two other accomplices before coming forward to loot them. The two other members were also riding a Pulsar.

Three of the victims succeeded in saving their mobile phones by distracting the robbers, but the rest had to surrender their cell phones, which included a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Nokia Lumia, a Sony Xperia and a Moto G. They also had to surrender their Nikon D 5300 DSLR camera.

Amresh Chaudhary, father of one of the teenagers, said, "We had hoped for better governance and security situation in the township after BJP took over, but today's incident has let us down. If things like this can happen in broad daylight, how unsafe will it get when the sun goes down?"

The police officials said a complaint had been lodged in this regard and the procedure of preparing an FIR was under way. "Such incidents are our biggest challenge these days," said Pradeep Tripathi, SO, Indirapuram police station. "An investigation is on and we hope to nab the criminals soon."
