Saturday, May 6, reconnected Ardee City residents to India’s classical roots. A concert of Indian classical music at Ardee World School, Ardee City, Sector 52, left music lovers mesmerised. The concert was organised by the group “Random Beats”, headed by renowned vocalist and musicologist Pandit Geetesh Mishra.

The show was dedicated to the late classical singer Vidushi Kishori Amonkar, and paid tribute to her life and music. It began with devotional tunes, followed by renditions of Amonkar’s songs, such as the popular bhajan Mharo Pranam, sung by Papori Talukdar Trehan and accompanied by Gautam Mishra on the tabla.

Carnatic singer Vijaylakshi Balaji’s presentation of Kritis and Bhajanam, along with Uma Ganesan on violin and  A Ganesh on mridangam, was appreciated.

The concert concluded with a soulful rendition of khayal gayaki and thumri by Pandit Mishra. The presentation of the vilambit bandishMera Man Bandh Lino” and drut bandishPiya Ki Nazaria” held the audience in thrall. The Ati Drut Taraana was the evening’s special attraction.

Pandit Mishra wrapped up his recital with the composition Yaad Piya Ki Aye. He was accompanied on the tabla by Jayshankar Mishra, on the sarangee by Ustad Kamal Ahmad and on the harmonium by Kaushik Mitra.
