Dwarka, Shri Ram Apartments: Community and police act in unison

Dwarka’s Shri Ram Apartments in Sector 4 has become a model society. And how’s that? The residents have voluntarily involved themselves with the police in increasing the safety and security of the area under the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

According to the SHO, Dwarka North, JM Singh, residents have been involved in improving things around the area. Meetings between residents and beat officers, SHO and other higher officials took place a couple of months back, and the society willingly took up suggestions tabled by the police.

Secretary of the society, Vikas Saini, said, "They had suggested CCTV cameras, lights, fencing, and other safety features. We have installed 32 CCTV cameras, 120 LED lights on the premises and 42 LED lights on the outer walls. Besides that, we have barbed wires fencing over the boundary wall. So, we have done everything they suggested."

According to Saini, a WhatsApp group has also been created for quick communication. He added, "One person from each family has been taken into the group. The beat officer of the area has also been included."

Saini further informed, "Beat officers take rounds of the society every day. Also, we organised a camp for senior members of the society and collected their data for registration under the Special Protection Scheme for senior citizens under Delhi Police."

In Dwarka, 11 societies have been taken under the scheme, and 26 more have been identified for inclusion.  

Societies already under the purview of the scheme include Shri Ram Apartments from Sector 4; Sarv Sanjhi Apartments, Azad Hind Apartments, Sukh Sagar Apartments, all from Sector 9; Shakuntalam Apartments from Sector 10; Sanskriti Apartments from Sector 19; Chitrakoot Apartments and Dream Apartments from Sector 22; New Kanchenjunga Apartments and Harmony  Apartments from Sector 23; and Pink Apartments, Pocket 6, Nasirpur.
