These girls are going to do something awesome with Rexy's reward money!

The two young girls who found Rexy and returned him to his owners, an Australian couple living in Gurgaon, have finally accepted the Rs 2-lakh reward from them. The girls, however, intend to donate the money to an animal charity.

Akriti Nandy and her friend Sunaina, both residents of Block A in South City II, spotted the missing dog at the Block B market on Sunday, May 7 — the very day the dog went missing. "I remember admiring how clean the dog was, despite being on the streets. He approached us in a friendly manner, wagging his tail," Nandy told City Spidey. The 18-year-old further added, "We were not aware that it was the missing dog, Rexy. On Tuesday, we saw several posters about a missing dog and realised it was the same pooch we had seen in the market the other day. We went back to the  market, located him and then contacted Rick Green."

On Wednesday afternoon, Venus and Rick Green, Rexy's owners, went over to the girls' place to thank them. They invited them, along with their families, to a party they were throwing on Saturday to celebrate Rexy's return.

"A big thank you to all who supported us during this hard time," said an ecstatic Rick Green. "I'd like to thank the Ireo rescue team for helping us get our boy back. The dog-lovers' group, comprising 35 people, helped us search for Rexy in five-hour shifts. I've never come across such a helpful bunch in my life."

"The moment we received the cheque, we knew what we wanted to do with the money," said Nandy. "We will give it to an animal charity. We are really touched by the emotional connect the couple has with Rexy. They announced such a huge amount to get their dog back!"

The girls are also excited to meet Rexy on Saturday evening.

Rexy, an adopted street dog, went missing on May 7. Owners Venus and Rick Green had announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for information on his whereabouts.
