Residents of Aditya Urban Casa, a residential society in Sector 78, Noida, have decided to lodge a complaint against the builder for the dysfunctional firefighting equipment in the society. The society has eight buildings with 14 storeys each, and 1,000 residents living in them. This makes a functional firefighting system a necessity.

Residents had asked the builder to check how functional the firefighting equipment installed in the buildings was. But nothing was done about it.

In a letter to Orion Infrabuild Pvt Ltd, the builder, residents demanded that the pipes, hoses, nozzles and pumps be checked to ensure they could be used in case of an emergency. They also wanted the builder to make sure the security guards were trained to handle the equipment. Residents also think the number of fire extinguishers in the society is insufficient.

Colonel P Chandra, an ex-army officer living in the society, said he was planning to approach Noida Authority for an audit of the society's firefighting equipment, as the builder had not responded to their letter. "I have come to know that the Authority has been conducting site inspections of various societies to check the functionality of firefighting equipment," said Colonel Chandra. "I will urge them to include our society on its list."
