Residents of areas such as Sushant Lok, Ardee City and parts of sectors 45 and 46  in Gurgaon grappled with a power cut that lasted for around eight to nine hours. The power cut began at 8 pm on May 9.

The outage was due to a major breakdown at Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam’s power house in Sector 52. The main transformer developed an unexpected fault that interrupted the transmission system. The power house supplies electricity to Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) for distribution.

Anil Yadav, superintending engineer, HVPN, told City Spidey, “The transmission was restored by midnight and the power supply was fine after that. The reason for such breakdowns is high demand during summers.”

Meanwhile, residents of Sushant Lok I say that the power supply has become very erratic in their area and that the mildest of dust storms interrupts the supply for hours. The power cuts are so haphazard that they cannot plan anything. They want that if the power is cut officially, the residents be informed beforehand.

Residents allege that in Block A, the power supply resumed at 6 am on May 10 while in Block C, it resumed at 8 am.

Residents of Ardee City who had similar complaints had even staged a protest against poor power supply two weeks ago.

“Once again, faults in the electrical infrastructure became evident as the biggest block of Ardee City plunged into darkness for hours on Tuesday. One of the electrical panels in our society was burnt as it couldn't handle the load. The builder did not entertain any phone calls and in this harsh weather, we had to face a lot of discomfort,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, a resident of Block C in the township.
