Senior Citizens Association is a Dwarka-based group that works for the welfare of the community. This burgeoning, active group of more than 2,100 members includes people the sub-city and its surroundings.

“We are a group of people who look after each other," says BS Yadav, president of the association. "The association is dedicated to the health, entertainment, and issues of senior citizens."

According to Yadav, the Association has its own Recreation Centre where daily yoga sessions, satsang and skits and plays related to Ramayana are organised.

"Our association makes sure that the members are up-to-date about policies and programmes related to senior citizens," said Ravi Jaitely, general secretary of the association. "We also organise regular health check-up camps and functions on occasions such as New Year, Republic Day, Holi and Independence Day. We organise visits and tours for our members. We recently took our members to Mughal Gardens and Akshardham Temple. In the past, we have arranged trips to Amritsar and Wagah border. A trip to Nepal is on the cards. There are awareness campaigns we organise — cleanliness drives, neighbourhood watch, tree-planting drives and society management systems. We also hold an annual general body meeting, where dignitaries from the central, state and local levels are invited."

The association also pays attention to problems faced by individuals and tries to solve them. "Be it family matters, official matters, health problems, or financial matters — we are always looking out for each other," adds Jaitely.

The association also organises campaigns to sensitise people about their rights. "We also try to introduce new income-generating measures for the those in need," says Jaitely.
