Residents of Gaur City, a residential society in Greater Noida (West), led by Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), on May 13 ran a campaign on Twitter demanding Metro rail service in their area from UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. They launched the campaign to draw the minister’s attention towards the ever-increasing traffic congestion on roads.

The campaign comes a week after Amit Mohan Prasad, CEO of Greater Noida Authority, announced that the approved Metro rail project for Noida Extension or Greater Noida (West) stands cancelled. He had cited financial constraints as the reason for cancellation of the project.

Residents say that it was not a fair decision as they had bought houses keeping in mind mass transit facilities. They had moved into their new homes hoping that the Metro rail service would come to in their locality in the near future. But the project was cancelled after most flats in several residential complexes were sold.

Amarjeet Rathore, a resident of Gaur City, told City Spidey, “Many residents have tagged CM Yogi in their tweets demanding Metro rail service for their convenience. We are also planning to meet the CEO and the CM to insist on taking back the decision to cancel the project.”
