Residents of Ashiana Upvan, a residential society in Ahinsa Khand II in Indirapuram, conducted a cleanliness drive in their neighbourhood today. The brooms and mops came out at 8 in the morning and kept working for the next two hours.

Speaking to City Spidey, Ajay Shukla, a resident of the society, said the drive was necessary to spread awareness about keeping our surroundings clean and participating in keeping the neighbourhood clean. “Residents from several societies, along with the maintenance teams of Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam and GDA, participated in the drive. Blaming the authorities is not the right way to go about cleaning the area. Cleanliness is everyone's responsibility. If residents join hands and take to it, keeping the neighbourhood clean is a piece of cake,” said a resident.

Shukla further said plans were being made to organise the drives more frequently and getting vendors and shopkeepers on board to keep the area clean. “We have planned to put up cleanliness-related slogans and messages in the neighborhood,” added Shukla.

Jayati Jain, a resident of Rishabh Cloud 9, and also a member of the local Green Team, a resident group that organises cleanliness and tree-planting drives, told City Spidey that the drive was successful and had also helped in getting residents of several societies to unite for the cause. “Over 70 to 80 residents participated in the drive. The entire area was spic and span after the drive."
