A 26-year-old private tutor was arrested for allegedly raping and indulging in immoral act with one of his minor students from Mahagun Mascot, a residential society in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad. The arrest was made late in the evening on May 14 based on a complaint by the victim’s father.

The accused, identified as Arjun Batra, used to live in a flat in the society, which he also used as a venue for "Pathshala," his coaching class. He has been living in the society as a tenant for over two years and used to teach children on a one-to-one basis initially. His family stays in Panchsheel Wellington, another residential society in Crossings Republik.

“The accused had been in contact with the minor for the last 7-8 months and had developed sexual relations with her. We received a complaint from the minor's father on Sunday evening about the tutor raping and coercing his daughter on the pretext of giving her coaching lessons. He explained that he would often call the girl for lessons at odd hours and would have probably forced himself on her," said Prajyant Tyagi, incharge, Crossing Republik police post.

"The minor's father had caught the girl having overtly friendly conversations via messages with the accused using her cellphone and immediately asked us to arrest him," added Tyagi.

Members of apartment owners association (AOA) of Mahagun Mascot told City Spidey that the victim’s parents tried to barge into the society but were stopped by security guards and residents who asked them to call the police and then enter.

“After becoming popular, the accused started teaching groups of students and took it up as a full time job. From what we know, he was in a relationship with the victim and had made objectionable video clips of the victim and was blackmailing her. The girl might have come under pressure and revealed the matter to her parents. He used to live in Valencia tower and shifted to flat 146 of Crema tower about a week ago,” said Niranjan Gupta, an AOA member.

However, the police denied the presence of any such video clip and said that girl’s relationship had enraged her parents. Her medical test was not conducted as she had submitted a written a request for not undergoing a medical examination.

The accused has been arrested under Sections 375 (Rape) of the IPC and under POCSO Act, and has been sent to judicial custody.
