Why residents of Gurgaon’s Valley View Estate are scared to step out

Thousands of motorists use the Gurgaon-Faridabad road. But without speed breakers or a traffic signal, the stretch in front of this society, and several others, has become dangerous for residents.

Why residents of Gurgaon’s Valley View Estate are scared to step out

More than 2,000 residents of Valley View Estate, on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road, are finding it tough to even enter and exit their condominium.

There are no speed breakers in front of the condominium, and traffic snarls in the morning and evening office hours make even crossing the road difficult.

Thousands of motorists coming from and going towards Faridabad use the stretch, as it extends to south Gurgaon, Manesar, Sohna Road and NH 8.

Residents allege that the road, which has heavy traffic flow, remains completely dark throughout the night. In the absence of traffic lights and police checks, commuters do not hesitate to drive on the wrong side of the road.

There’s yet another problem: As several school buses move on this road, picking up and dropping children, pedestrian movement is severely hampered.

“At times, we have to wait for more than 20 minutes, as the traffic is unending. At night, heavy vehicles move at high speeds on this stretch, making it very risky for us,” said a resident, Ajay Pandita.

Residents have been demanding the widening of the road at the earliest. They also want a traffic signal to be installed on the main road, so traffic can be kept in check.

Shalini Satija, a daily commuter to Faridabad, complained, “It gets dangerous here. Blind cuts and lack of proper lighting are responsible for the high number of accidents on the stretch.”

“We have been writing to the authorities for more than a year now, but no action has been taken so far,” said Col (Retired) SS Sharma, RWA president.
