43°C and a 5-hour power cut! No wonder Grand Omaxe residents are on short fuse

As temperature soared to 43°C on the night of May 15, residents of Grand Omaxe, a residential society in Sector 93B, Noida, were fuming over a five-hour-long power cut in the society.

The outage occurred because of a technical fault in the transmission lines. While restoring the supply, the transformer of the society tripped.

Although the society is equipped with a power back-up system, residents had to face a lot of inconvenience as sudden breakdown of the diesel generator (DG) set also aggravated the problem.

PVS Prakash, general secretary of the AOA, said, "Power supply to the society was disrupted from early evening to mid night on May 15. The DG set also stopped because it could not be run for long hours on full load. The engines of the DG set gets heated after a while and takes hours to cool."

“Residents spent the time restlessly as there was no relief from the heat wave and the high temperature,” he added.

When City Spidey spoke to Yatendra Kumar, executive engineer with division 2, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL), he said that there were no issues with the supply. The problem was in the transmission line due to which the transformer of the society tripped. “The supply was restored around midnight,” he added.
