For Uppal's Southend residents, going home is risky business

The U-turn just a few metres from their society is scary, say residents.

For Uppal's Southend residents, going home is risky business

Residents of Uppal's Southend on Sohna Road, Sector 49, Gurgaon, have to negotiate a risky U-turn every day, just a couple of metres from their society. Things get especially dangerous due to fast-moving traffic on the other side, coming from Rajiv Chowk.

According to residents, no action has been taken on this, despite the issue being raised time and again.

“The turn is scary. Our society gate is on the left, but we have to keep to the right after taking the U-turn, as traffic on the other side is dangerously fast. This problem needs to be tackled, as speeding traffic can lead to an accident any day,” said Anushka Mukherjee, a resident of Uppal's Southend.

Most stretches on Sohna Road have rumble strips to reduce the speed of vehicles for commuter safety, but this particular street doesn't even have that.

“There should be some sort of space designated for those taking the U-turn," said Deepak Rathore, another resident. "Since it's a small crossing, there is no traffic police here. But we feel there should be one.”

Balbir Singh, DCP traffic police, told City Spidey the issue was being resolved. “The problem has been reported to Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, and we are following up with them.”
