Mayfield Garden, Gurgaon: The death of a community centre

The contractor stopped work on the community centre over non-payment issues, but who’s paying the price? The residents — who have to shell out huge sums for expensive venues outside.

Mayfield Garden, Gurgaon: The death of a community centre The abandoned community centre at Mayfield Garden

Where do residents of Gurgaon’s Mayfield Garden in Sector 51 hold private functions? At expensive venues outside the premises!

Why? The builder is yet to build a community centre.

Saket Kumar, executive member of the RWA said, “We are spending huge sums of money to hold functions at venues outside. It’s a shame really!”

The community centre at Mayfield Garden, spread across an acre, is now a bare cement structure — still incomplete!

Dharam Singh Yadav, RWA president of Mayfield Garden, said, “Our colony was built by five builders, of them New India Developers — also known as Today Homes — had the responsibility of constructing the community centre. But they stopped work over non-payment.”

Cdr Dharamveer Yadav, former RWA president, said, “The contractor had started building the community centre, but left it incomplete due to non-payment issues. It has been like this for two years now. It’s useless the way it is right now.”

The builder was unavailable for comment.
